Maribor, Solvinia, well....
Track was cool, it had a good flow and kept you entertained all the way down with very little rest. Although after last weeks 5 minute mission at Fort William, this three minute technical track didn’t seem long.

Josh Bryceland was flat out after a disappointing worlds, he finished 9th overall and took the junior win, Gee kept his podium run going finishing 2nd just behind Sam, followed by Camellini going well, ending the season on a high in third.

The promise of free beer at the after party lured many to a dark alley after the race, sadly as always you had to be quick to get the free stuff, otherwise you were left paying full Slovenian retail of 70p a pint, tough break….

Look forward to returning for round 1 next year.

I was really pleased to have the chance to compete in a world championships on home soil.

It was a great race, made by the spectators. I think most riders there, with the exception of the guy on the top step have their own story about the race. Pinning weeks of training on 1 run is a tough game, but then if it was easy there wouldn’t be nearly as much satisfaction at stake.

It was televised well (unfortunately for me), so it was cool to see everyone’s runs afterwards….
We had a really strong team this year for downhill, with a Brit' on every podium. In the men’s downhill, I’m sure everyone would have loved to see a Brit in top spot, but I don’t think many would argue that Sam was a deserving winner given his recent winning streak.

Best bits of the weekend:
Ruaridh winning in front of his home crowd.
(And getting a Malteser that was all chocolate…)

Worst bits of the weekend:
Dabbing my foot on a corner and tearing a ligament in my ankle two days before the final.

Comic highlights:
The Aussi who ripped the arse out of is skin suit half way down…

I'd been to Pra Loup before as editor of MBi magazine to race a French National round in 1998, so going back to race a Masters Worlds seemed like a good excuse to go back, heck, I'll even know the course!
What a great weekend, lots of sun, lots of dust and lots of old foreign blokes riding mountain bikes down hills! on a completely new course (so there goes my sneaky 9 year previous practice) in part deigned by MX legend Jean Michel Bayle - awesome...

No pressure, just a chance to try out some stuff and have a cheeky glass of chardonnay at lunch time (hey you need to re-hydrate!)
It was a very fast track, unlike anything found in the UK, some REALLY flat out sections and some VERY fast turns.
Unbelievable that some of the 60+ category were doing the double jump at the end of the course! That put paid to any initial thoughts of riding around it!!!!

Prior to Pra Loup ChrisP and Pete stopped at Metabief for a spot of freeriding - go there next year if you can, mad, mad tracks... the 'black' freeride track was PROPER hard!

The day after ChrisP cracked out the supermoto bike to ride with Christoph from Fox Racing Shox and who should turn up by helicopter to ride supermoto but Michael Shumacher!!
Follow me Shumi' I'll show you the lines!
He was very, very fast on a bike, what a surreal day!

Under the searing hot Quebec sun, on dusty, loose course, Mojo Orange riders had a great day of racing. For the first time this season, Canadian Riders Jeff Beatty and Evan Irvine joined the European riders at World Cup Downhill #3 in Mont Ste Anne, Canada. The legendary beast of the classic events, Ste Anne was been tamed down a bit this year, losing some of the upper rock sections in exchange for a fast, bermed up highway through the woods. The high speed sweeping corners are still out in the open however, so riders risk life and limb trying to make up time any place they can now that the technical sections are gone up top.

Qualifying went well for all of the Mojo Riders save Irvine, who suffered a flat and tore his tire from his rim, causing him to DNF. Cammelini qualified in 13th, Beatty in 30th and Stanbridge squeaked in in 68th spot.

In the finals Dan was the first rider down for Orange and managed to slide into the hotseat for a decent stay after breaking a derrailleur cable in the first corner out of the gate. he would wind up in 23rd spot, not bad with what was essentially a single speed! Next up was Beatty, who crossed the line 4th behind Standbridge at the time, and would eventually sit in 27th place on the day. Cammelini was the last Mojo rider out of the box, and tore down the course for a team best 12th place finish. Strangely enough, the frenchman suffered the exact same mechanical as Stanbridge.

Team Mojo Orange made a fantastic start to the 2007 race season at the first round of the Maxxis Cup International held at Gouveia, Portugal. In recent years this event has become a bit of an unofficial season opener for European based World Cup riders giving them the first taste of international race action for the new season. This year attracted the strongest field of riders yet with most of Europe’s World Cup contenders competing, the field contained no less than 5 previous world cup winners.

Our riders, Stanny and Julien, came into this event full of confidence having just been on a week long road trip to the Fox Racing Shox team camp held in the north of Italy. It’s safe to say the bikes were well dialled in and ready to race on their arrival. They were confident throughout practice with team mechanic Paul ‘ Jelly Bean’ Jones doubling up as a bus driver uplifting them to the top of the track in his now ‘mobile’ workshop to get maximum time on the track and master the racing line.

The pace of the track was confirmed when Dan Stanbridge put in a stunning chainless run of 1.44.00, some 3.2 seconds clear of the next rider. Julien had a small crash off the track putting him back by 5 seconds from Dan showing that he was on the pace.

In the first round of race runs Julien almost made good his prediction with a run of 1.40.341. Whilst not sub 1.40.00 it was still the fastest time ever down the Abercarn track. Dan made a small mistake on the fast open turn near the top of the track which pushed him back to 3rd fastest.

For the second runs there were few riders at the top who managed to better their times, with so many riders the track was getting a little blown out in some places. If you stepped off the main line, it was loose!!

The end results were pretty much the same as the first runs, with Julien in 1st place and Dan in 3rd. Julien didn’t break the 1.40.00 mark but still went away with the course record. There were strong performances from the youth of Mojo, with Tom Wheeler 4th and Joe Taylor 6th in the very competitive junior category.

Team Mojo enjoyed another successful weekend at the first Dragon Downhill event of the 2007 Season. With perfect weather conditions all weekend the well established Abercarn Downhill track was riding faster than ever. With a record number of 320 riders in attendance you would of expected to be struggling to get time on the track however, Jason from Dragon Downhill has invested heavily in his own buses this winter so the uplifts were working at maximum efficiency.

Julien Camellini was confident during practice that race times would break 1.40.00, bearing in mind the previous track record for its current configuration was 1.47ish then you can get an idea of his supreme confidence in his riding right now.

For 2007 Dragon Downhill has decided to introduce chainless seeding runs, seems like a crazy idea but in general it was well received by the riders on the Abercarn track. It was pointed out that we may be getting off and running at some venues so it may be limited to the steeper ones!

Race day consisted of two race runs, on the first run Julien just managed to make the top 10, however he felt there was plenty more speed to be squeezed out of his Orange (hee, hee!). Stanny was in a similar position in 10th place again feeling there was more to come on the second run.
Julien didn’t disappoint smashing his first run time by four seconds lifting him up to second overall just over 4/100” of a second behind twice World Champion and fellow countryman Fabien Barel. Dan improved slightly to confirm his top ten finish ending up 9th but less than one second back from 5th.

Both riders were understandably pleased with their performances against such a world class field of riders, Fabien confirmed later to Julien by text message that he had had what he felt was a great race run. Julien getting so close to him was a superb result for Julien, for Mojo and for Orange!
